Trailer Critique

The trailer I decided to critique is "Like Crazy". When I watched this trailer it made me want to go see this movie.

Narrative

This movie is a romantic, drama, and sad movie based on the editing, and audio said in the trailer. This trailer reveals a narrative arch of the story. First, the audience is introduced to the the main actor and actress. These two meet, and they begin to fall in love with each other. They begin to spend a lot of time with each. However, Jacob has a visa, and he did something wrong. He had to be deported back to the UK. They try to keep a long distant relationship, but it is hard due to the time difference.

The locations are very romantic. This shows their chemistry and their love toward each other. Their facial expressions show their emotions toward each other. In this picture, Anne looks very happy and shy.

There is little dialogue to show their chemistry, and to show the problems they face with a long distant relationship. In the bed scene, dialogue is present to express their feelings, and to give the audience a sense of their love.
Anne says, "Don't think about it". This her character because she does not want him to be worried about anything. Also dialogue is used to show their problems. The guy standing there tell her, "He has to be placed on a plane immediately...". This shows that they are going to be in different countries. It foreshadows that they will have trouble managing a long distant relationship.

Cinematography
The majority of the shots of the characters are close- ups and two shot full shots. This adds to the genre of romantic because close- ups reveal their intimacy. It also makes the audience to go see the film due to the many details shown.

The lighting in the shots are bright when they first meet, but as the character get upset, the lighting gets dark.

Editing
There is a very slow pace edit in the first 30 seconds of the trailer. In the first thirty seconds the audience begin to see their relationship develop. As the trailer progresses the shot begin to have a fast pace. When they are in the bed together asleep there are about ten shots of them sleeping together. This shows how long they have been together, and it shows their passion towards each other.
The edit is in chronological order, but near the end it goes out of order to show climactic and emotional events

Sound/ Music
There is one continuous song playing throughout the trailer. The lyrics of this song relates to their relationship. I has a soft beat, and the tone of the song is sad. This contributes to the narrative, and it makes the narrative stronger and easy to understand.
